is who he claims to be, then out of this belief should come the conviction to live by his
teachings. Convictions prepare us to effectively live a life of faith and to defend our faith
when necessary.
Conviction can also refer to the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, telling us what is
right and wrong. Without the Holy Spirit convicting our hearts, we would be unprepared
to face temptation and would easily give in when confronted by someone more forceful.
Convictions hold us steady on the path of life and help us to faithfully live and act out our
belief in God in practical ways. Keep your convictions sharp, and your life will be a great
story of faith in God.
What are some basic convictions I must have to effectively live out my faith?
• H E B R E W S 6 :1 8 | So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are
unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him
for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
God always keeps his promises.
• E X O DU S 2 0 :3 | “You must not have any other god but me.”
God must have first priority in your life.
• 2 T I MOT H Y 3 :1 6 | All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and
teaches us to do what is right.
The Bible was written by God and is God’s truth for all matters of faith and life.
• 1 J O H N 1 :9 | But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 5 :1 7 | This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new
person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
If you are truly sorry for your sins and confess them to God (repentance), and if you believe
that God’s Son Jesus died for you to take upon himself the punishment for sin you deserve,
then God forgives you and gives you the gift of salvation. The moment you are saved, the
Holy Spirit enters your life and begins transforming you into a new person on the inside.
Then you know that your life can and will be different.
• E PH E SI A NS 4 :1 5 | Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and
more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
If you live by the truths in God’s Word, you will become more and more like Jesus, which is
your primary goal.
• R O MA NS 8 :3 8 -3 9 | Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. . . . No power in the sky
above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us
from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing can separate you from God’s love for you.
• 1 PE T E R 1 :2 1 | Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your
faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.
Christ has power over death, for he brought himself back from death.
• J O SH U A 2 4 :2 4 | “We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.”
• PR O VE R B S 3 :5 -6 | Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own
understanding. Seek his will in all you do.
It is essential to obey God completely.
• H E B R E W S 1 0 :3 5 | Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great
reward it brings you!

You can’t see faith, but you can see the evidence of faith as God does his supernatural
work through people. This gives you assurance that your faith is real and a conviction that
one day you will see what you can’t now.

• H E B R E W S 1 1 :1 | Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things
we cannot see.
