26 “But what shall I write the emperor? For
there is no clear charge against him. So I have
brought him before all of you, and especially
you, King Agrippa, so that after we examine
him, I might have something to write. 27 For it
makes no sense to send a prisoner to the em
peror without specifying the charges against
him!”

O Lord, hear me as I pray;
pay attention to my groaning.
Listen to my cry for help, my King and
my God,
for I pray to no one but you.
Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.
Each morning I bring my requests to
you and wait expectantly.
O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness;
you cannot tolerate the sins of the
wicked.
Therefore, the proud may not stand in
your presence,
for you hate all who do evil.
You will destroy those who tell lies.
The Lord detests murderers and
deceivers.
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter
your house;

I will worship at your Temple with
deepest awe.
Lead me in the right path, O Lord,
or my enemies will conquer me.
Make your way plain for me to follow.
My enemies cannot speak a truthful
word.
Their deepest desire is to destroy
others.
Their talk is foul, like the stench from
an open grave.
Their tongues are filled with flattery.*
O God, declare them guilty.
Let them be caught in their own traps.
Drive them away because of their many
sins,
for they have rebelled against you.
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them sing joyful praises forever.
Spread your protection over them,
that all who love your name may be
filled with joy.
For you bless the godly, O Lord;
you surround them with your shield
of love.
5:9 Greek version reads with lies. Compare Rom 3:13.
PROVERBS 18:19

An offended friend is harder to win back
than a fortified city.
Arguments separate friends like a gate
locked with bars.
LORD, HOW LONG WILL YOU WAIT before pouring
out justice? In your mercy, hear the cries of the
oppressed and all who suffer. Your people grow
weary, but we know your timing is perfect. Help
me to proclaim your goodness no matter what the
circumstances. I want my tongue to be used to speak
your truths—to speak life! Show me how to be a voice
for those who cannot speak for themselves. Amen.
1 CHRONICLES 5:18–6:81
There were 44,760 capable warriors in the
armies of Reuben, Gad, and the h
alf-tribe of
Manasseh. They were all skilled in combat and
armed with shields, swords, and bows. 19 They
waged war against the Hagrites, the J eturites,
the Naphishites, and the Nodabites. 20 They
cried out to God during the battle, and he an
swered their prayer because they trusted in
him. So the Hagrites and all their allies were

defeated. 21 The plunder taken from the Hag
rites included 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep
and goats, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 cap
tives. 22 Many of the Hagrites were killed in
the battle because God was fighting against
them. The people of Reuben, Gad, and Manas
seh lived in their land until they were taken
into exile.
23 The half-tribe of Manasseh was very large
and spread through the land from Bashan
