2022 Quality Improvement Champions
Radfan M. Gazali, MD
Director of Hospital Medicine
Mount Sinai Brooklyn
For building a hospitalist medicine division that
decreased length of stay by 35 percent, kept mortality
and readmission lower than would be expected, and
resulted in the highest patient satisfaction ratings in the
hospital; these efforts included implementing system
protocols, working on local initiatives, and establishing
weekly educational sessions.
Keasha S. Guerrier, MD, FAAFP
Chair Family Medicine
Long Island Jewish Valley Stream
Northwell Health
For her commitment to quality and safety, and equity in
various projects in the Northwell Health system; for
serving as Chair of Leadership and supporting Diversity,
Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) for the New York State
Academy of Family Physicians.
Carin Gutelius, MSN, RN-C, NE-BC
Director of Inpatient Nursing and Critical Care
Lawrence + Memorial Hospital
Yale New Haven Health
For leadership in achieving an extremely low rate of
central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI)
for the year—better than the system’s stretch goal—an
effort which included a daily line review by every area’s
nurse leader as well as a review of best practices; and
for working with the IV therapy team to identify
opportunities for enhanced care.
