Culinary Medicine Pilots
Culinary Medicine launched as
an emerging program at VCP that
seeks to educate both patients
and practitioners at medical
institutions. This initiative focuses
on teaching practical culinary skills
with recipes tailored to support
specific health populations. In our
work with practitioners, we aim to
equip medical students to better
advise and coach patients about
practical, nutritious, and delicious
meal preparation. Within patient
populations, our workshops are
designed to develop culinary skills
and knowledge of nutritious foods
and recipes they can prepare
to support their specific health
This year, we piloted Culinary
Medicine with fourth year medical
students at UPenn’s Perelman
School of Medicine (PSOM) and
with the Children’s Hospital of
Philadelphia (CHOP)’s Integrative
Health Program designed for
patients with gastrointestinal
diseases and their families.
Next year, we intend to continue
to develop this program and build
on our learnings with continued
sessions at PSOM and CHOP, as well
as scheduled visits to Philadelphia
College of Osteopathic Medicine

for our family. It is such a hard
