Romans ~ God is for us!
Rom. 8:27-39
Romans chapter eight is in that part of the Roman letter I often identify by using
the word “power.” Not only is the gospel powerful in getting us out of sin and
into fellowship with God (when we are buried with Christ in baptism, see Rom.
6:4). Even more, God supplies the power for us to walk in newness of life after
baptism and thrive as members of His family.
That power stands out in full relief in chapter eight. Here are some encouraging
highlights:
1) “the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” When
we pray and cannot perfectly express our supplications and praise, we have
help at God’s end.
2) We know that every part of God’s plan and every good thing works for
our good.
3) Those who are called and remain faithful to their calling will be
“glorified.”
4) We know that if God is for us, no opposition can take us down. So long
as I seek God’s will, I cannot be defeated.
5) Nothing separates us from the love of Christ.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved
us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things
present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else
in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus
our Lord,” (Rom. 8:37-39).
I repeat – through the gospel, those who respond are not only taken out of sin,
but empowered to thrive and be glorified. We are more than conquers through
Him who loved us.
