Romans ~ Concerning His Son
Rom. 1:3,4
The gospel Paul explained in Romans is centered in a Person.
Romans 1:3-4 - “concerning His Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh
and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his
resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Everything in God’s plan for us is Christ-centered! It is the good news about who He is, what
He did for us – and how we can respond and be saved. Paul was Christ-centered in all his
teaching and preaching (see 1 Cor. 2:1-5).
Christ was born of the seed of David according to the flesh. God had said – in those
promises and prophecies – that the Messiah would be a descendant of David. What God said
came to pass, in the entrance of Christ into the world! This was announced by the apostle
Peter on the day of Pentecost (see Acts 2:14-38).
Not only when Christ first came but as He ascended, the same truth was affirmed. He was
declared to be the Son of God in power according to the spirit of holiness by his resurrection
from the dead.”
The way Jesus body came into the world – showed Him to be the Messianic seed of
David. The way His spirit was reunited with His body – in His resurrection, showed
or declared Him to be the Son of God.
The practical meaning of these profound historical truths are explained – throughout the rest
of the book of Romans.
