R
esidents of West Ashley’s District 10
have two choices for this year’s City
Council election: young and younger.
If the ages of incumbent Harry Griffin
and challenger Stephen Bowden were
added together, it still wouldn’t equal most
of the other member’s ages individually.
Bowden is a lawyer in the local
solicitor’s office, and Griffin works in
importing. Bowden is married, while Griffin
Stephen Bowden
is unmarried. Both live in Shadowmoss
Plantation, and each have raised somewhere
over $30,000 in campaign donations.
Bowden says that if he and Griffin
“showed up at your door, we would probably
say similar things about development;
the need for smarter development; the
need to slow development out here to
give infrastructure time to catch up;
that we need good new commercial
development out here; and that we are both
circumspect about massive new residential
development.”
When asked, Griffin agrees. More
needs to be done about flooding and the
pace and style of flooding, pointing to the
city’s new stormwater requirements that
new development must be able to hold its
rainfall for several days before releasing it.
