SANCTUARIES
Jobi Manson
The island of Hydra, in Greece, which is known as
the island of longing: sun kissed, slow, hot. Hydra
has no cars, only donkeys, and one walks from place
to place. Bells chime at sunrise, freddo espresso
is served lazily around 10:30, and time stands still.
A few other places where I feel at home in the world:
Sea Ranch and the Sonoma Coast; Kealakekua Bay
on the Big Island of Hawaii; and Casa Orgullosa on
the Oaxacan Coast.

SE FARI FOUNDER
Jobi Manson defies easy category: she is a California-based
interdisciplinary artist, surfer and healer who works with
sound and elemental immersion. Her platform, Sēfari,
is a portal for her transformative journeys in nature—
sessions in the sea, the woods, or in your own bathtub.
“I help people remember how to embrace the nature
within—and I have always been a devoted explorer,”
she says, explaining the name. “Bathe in Nature” is
a guided, 30-minute journey that uses touch and sound
to attune the body and soothe the senses, and can be
experienced from anywhere in the world, or at her
in-person workshops in the US and Greece. We asked her
for tips on staying connected and grounded on the go.

JET LAG REMEDY
I love to find a local bathhouse for a soak or steam
room, followed by a cold plunge or cold shower.
A balance of hot and cold water really helps activate
circulation and immune response—water gets
things moving, improving blood-flow, digestion,
relaxation, immunity and a clear mental state.
A SENSE OF PLACE
When I create a journey, I am working with sounds
that emerged from a specific place: rainfall in the
Hoh rainforest, crashing waves on the Cliffs of
Moher, an Amazonian tribe performing a ritual.
Certain sounds have immense power to conjure
memory. Through sound, we travel as we listen.
