LETTER FROM
EXEC. DIRECTOR
Dear Friends of the York Symphony Orchestra,
Well, here we are. Finally making music for you
after eight long months. Nobody could have ever
guessed this is how we'd be kicking off our 88th
season. With millions afflicted with COVID-19 and
over 200,000 deaths, this pandemic has embroiled
our communities with issues of public healthcare
and tense race relations.
The crisis this coronavirus has caused for
everyone—particularly our education system—
makes the tribulations of orchestras seem paltry,
at best. Yet, it's in these times of prolonged isolation we realize the
necessity for shared experiences and how essential symphonic music is to
connecting us.
Even since the early stay-at-home orders in March, the YSO has continued
playing music with our #Offstage social media series, online summer
composition camp, and First Friday performance at downtown's Restaurant
Row. Through all of it, our patrons and donors have been exceedingly
generous in their support of the organization. Thanks to you, we have been
able to support our artistic personnel through a successful Musician's Relief
Fund, and our institution's core finances are holding steady.
None of us can plan like we used to, but rest assured the York Symphony
Orchestra is here to stay. We don't know what the future will bring, but we
do know we can provide you tonight's first-ever digital concert live from
the Strand Theatre in the Appell Center.
Musically Yours,
Michael Reichman
Executive Director
