DEFYING
EVIL
The evil of the
Holocaust—the
way it occurred and
how easily—is not
something that just happened to Jews.
It demonstrates that a mass genocide
can take place for no reason other
than one’s religion, race, or skin color.
There have been many atrocities
in history. But this was a multiyear,
systematic process where humans built
factories to kill other humans. It was
methodically planned to extinguish
an entire race from the globe. They
almost succeeded.
It’s so easy to forget that this really
happened. But it did happen. Across
Europe, it occurred so gradually, so
easily, that suddenly, it was too late.
So many people don’t grow up with this
history. We want to make sure people
understand that if you don’t talk about
these things, they can happen again.
The United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum offers so many educational
programs and reaches so many people of

different backgrounds with a wealth of
materials, including videos and artifacts
that counter those who don’t know or
who deny what actually occurred.
This institution’s scope, scholarship,
reach, and impact truly make it a
resource for the world. It’s essential
that the records and lessons of the
Holocaust are preserved to honor the
memory of those who were lost and to
prevent something like this from ever
happening again. We’re all so thankful
for this Museum, which is dedicated to
such an important, meaningful mission.
The fact that two people survived the
evil that occurred, built a wonderful
life, and ultimately could make such a
legacy gift with their children is proof
that the Nazis did not succeed.”
