The first volume of the comprehensive
Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos changed
the understanding of the extent of Nazi
persecution. Documenting as many as 44,000
ghettos and camps, this vital reference is used
by scholars and others worldwide.
2015 The Simon-Skjodt Center for the
Prevention of Genocide launched the Early
Warning Project, a first-of-its-kind tool to
forecast which countries have the highest
risk of state-led mass killings. It provides
more accurate information to governments,
advocacy groups, and at-risk societies to
foster preventive action.

2018
The Museum commemorates its
25th anniversary with the opening
of the Americans and the Holocaust
exhibition that continues a 25-year
legacy of asking hard questions about
why the Holocaust happened.

2020
When the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily
closed the Museum to the public, the
institution gained ground online, increasing
the number of educators trained, adding
digital resources and programs, and
connecting survivors with new audiences.
Under the US Never Again Education Act,
the Museum expanded its work to advance
quality Holocaust education by establishing
best practices, providing training, and
developing accurate, relevant, and
accessible resources.
