I did not lose any relatives
in the Holocaust. My
ancestors fled eastern
Europe in the late 1800s and early
1900s. I first explored the Museum
soon after it opened. The photos of
the villagers in a Baltic state village
whose Jewish population was wiped
out stunned me; they could have been
my relatives. That exhibit, along with
Remember the Children: Daniel’s Story,
made a particularly strong
impression. My uncle Phil Slomovitz,
a Polish immigrant and JTA journalist,
often told my father his greatest fear
was that as the survivors and
witnesses died, the world would
forget or minimize the significance
of this singular event—the Holocaust.
Sadly, those fears were well founded.
No better time to make a legacy gift
and do my small part to make sure
others never forget.”
