“Changing to VIS
and the IB after 8
years of the Austrian school system
was definitely a
challenge. At first, I struggled, especially
with having a close relationship with my
teachers, who are there for you, want to
help and watch you succeed. One of the
most important lessons which the IB has
taught me is that having good relationships with teachers is key and makes it
possible for you to ask questions if something is unclear. Additionally, you should
always try to learn the content when it is
being taught. Trying to learn everything
last minute when you should be revising
is not a good road to go down.
Giving less weight to formative than summative assignments is also not a good
idea, I have learned, because at the end
of the day for the teacher, all assignments,
and assessments form a whole picture
of the student’s capabilities. Therefore,
when you are between two grades, the
assignments often can decide your final
result. The final lesson which I find most
important is that you need to believe in
yourself and that you can do it, even if
your grades do not reflect your hard work

and commitment! As long as you always
try your best, there is nothing more you
can do!”

“The IB Diploma Programme may seem
like a long and stressful two years especially the nerve-racking and exhausting
IB exams that close
off the programme.
However,
the
memories created, and the laughs
shared — those are
the enduring treasures. The 4-week exam
period and the programme as a whole has
a lot of ups and downs but I am sure that
everyone has passed and is now glad to
be entering the next phase of their lives.
Students also become engaged in other
projects such as the extended essay and
CAS programme. Having to choose six
subjects, three of those at higher level
allows us to gain a more comprehensive and complete education providing
us with a broader and more varied set of
skills and knowledge as we complete the
curriculum, allowing students to explore
multiple career paths or apply a broader
set of skills and apply more varied knowledge to the same profession. Therefore, I
believe that this educational programme
effectively prepares students for their
later professions or continued studies at
university.”
