Service in Secondary School
In Secondary School, we have established
a comprehensive Service continuum that
includes the MYP Service & Action programme and the IBDP Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) programme. Students
are encouraged to engage in responsible
action in both the local and global communities. This action allows our students
community level, encouraging thoughtful
and impactful engagement.
We are proud of the achievements that
our Secondary students have made in Service learning in the school year 2023–24.
The students showed commitment to Service through their engagement in both
the school and local communities and by
supporting global issues. As always, they
were supported by the faculty at VIS with
many opportunities for our students to
participate in Service.
There were many successful school events
which would not have been possible without the Secondary students’ involvement
and engagement through Service including sporting events, PTA events, theatre,
musical and talent events and community
events such as the graduation ball and the
annual Winter Market.

In the school year 2023–24 our students
were also engaged in the local community and helped, for example, at the Vienna City Marathon. The marathon has
become an important international event
and although numbers of participants fell
during the pandemic our students awarded over 40,000 medals at the finish line
again this year. Another local sporting
event that our students were involved
in was the Vienna Night Run, where we
had over 100 students participating from
Grades 9–12, as well as members of the
faculty. Students have also partnered with
local animal shelters, homeless shelters
and residential homes for the elderly.
In addition to existing partners and service opportunities it is always inspiring
for students to work with new partners
and be introduced to new global issues.
