they create products to sell and for each
Euro they earn, they are planting a tree in
the tropical rainforests around the world
through the programme of WWF. So far
they have planted more than 350 trees
during this school year!
The Secondary School Green Team engages in constant actions like gardening, led
by Mr. Rob Reed, Eco projects led by Ms.
Marti Hendrichs, and the development
of information materials led by Mr Dara
O’Hogain. All these actions support also
our community in developing awareness
to global issues like the need for saving
energy use.
Some other activities that the Green Teams
included the organization of petitions. This
has encouraged students to get involved in
environmental activities, create campaigns
to reduce food waste, promote the use of
reusable water bottles, act for enhancing
the biodiversity at school, and participate
in the Global Action Weeks with presentations of their work.
Our school administration and leadership has worked closely with us over the
past years, promoting changes in VIS
that reflect the commitment towards a

roofs, providing with possibilities for the
urban insects and local bird population.
The green roofs help us also puffer the
changes on temperature, allowing to have
cooler conditions in summer and warmer
conditions in winter.
We are saving energy wherever we can,
hence the changes made to our building that help us enhance the comfort
during the hot weather for teachers and
students.
After a thorough assessment guided by
the Eco Team, VIS proudly received the
accreditation by Umweltzeichen, the
Austrian label for sustainable business
and schools, making VIS the first international school to receive this certification.
This time, both the Primary and Secondary schools have been accredited, following the initial recognition of the Primary
School in May 2019. The Umweltzeichen
organization assists Austrian schools in
enhancing educational quality by involving students in environmentally friendly
practices. This significant accreditation
