The patient safety movement (PSM) is a non-profit foundation founded in 2012 whose vision is to achieve ZERO
preventable patient harm across the globe by 2030. In the United States, it is alarming that medical errors are the
third leading cause of death, behind heart disease and cancer. PSM helps to connects all stakeholders working
to advance patient safety by challenging status quo and breaking down silos. One of their strategies is to gather
content experts and patient safety professionals from healthcare systems around the world to develop Actionable
Patients Safety Solutions (APSS) for high-risk areas
including respiratory management, clinical emergencies,
medication administration, falls, skin breakdown, and
restraints. Obstetric safety is one area of focus with related
clinical blueprints for postpartum hemorrhage, reducing
unnecessary cesarean deliveries, and severe hypertension.
