WDH 2020-2021 Nursing Report - Flipbook - Page 2
A letter from the CNO
Reflecting on our last nursing
report, I am awed at our
accomplishments of the past
two years. We have weathered
this pandemic with teamwork,
innovation, and compassion.
We have faced unprecedented
and unfathomable challenges.
Remarkably, you continue to show resilience for our
patients and for each other. Each day you’ve navigated
uncertainty, remained vigilant, resourceful and
supportive of each other and our community.
COVID changed the world. You were asked to adapt, pivot
to new situations quickly, learn new skills and form new
relationships to get the job done. Outdoor clinics were
set up for respiratory illness, staff were redeployed and
learned new skills to support the increased capacity
demanded of the inpatient units, the ED, and critical care.
Surge areas were opened, nurse call lines stood up, vaccine
clinics emerged. We set up a monoclonal antibody clinic
and supported a massive drive through for testing. Things
moved quickly and you were there at every step -- actively
working, being engaged, successfully operationalizing
new venues, and meeting new challenges thrown your
way at a moment’s notice.
There are no words to express my appreciation to
this team of professionals. I am proud, honored, and
humbled to be a part of this team. As much as the
pandemic challenged us, you continued to advocate for
our patients and our profession. During this demanding
time, we achieved our redesignation for Magnet – the
nation’s highest honor for excellence in care. We had
numerous “Best of the Seacoast” awards including Best
Hospital, Best Emergency Room, Best Urgent Care, and
Best Place to Have a Baby, and our CMS scores showed
“communication with nursing” top in New Hampshire.
Thank you for what you’ve done and continue to do day in
and day out to make Wentworth-Douglass the incredible
organization it is -- providing outstanding, compassionate
care for our community. You are the unwavering core of
this organization.
