Structural Empowerment
Recognizing
Compassionate Care
DAISY and ROSE Honorees are recognized in surprise
ceremonies on their units. They are presented with
award pins and keepsake certificates. DAISY recipients
receive the Healer’s Touch sculpture, hand carved by
artists from the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe and ROSE
recipients receive an inscribed crystal paperweight.
Banners recognizing the honorees are displayed in their
work area for three months. To acknowledge the team
nature of patient care, sweet treats are provided for the
recipient’s coworkers to enjoy.
The DAISY Award is an international nurse recognition
program established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes.
Patrick died after an extended hospitalization from the
autoimmune disease ITP. His family was awestruck by
the compassionate and skilled care demonstrated by
his nurses. They created DAISY (Diseases Attacking the
Immune SYstem) as a way to thank them and honor
nurses everywhere.
The pandemic
didn't stop
loved ones from
participating
in award
ceremonies.
Matt’s family
