SPRINGBANK AND SAMAROLI
The late Silvano Samaroli is a legend in the world
of whisky. A simple scroll through the names of the
most highly regarded whiskies of all time will reveal
the ubiquity of Samaroli’s name in this list.
He is associated closely not only with fantastic
quality whiskies, but also his forward thinking and
game-changing focus on cask-strength bottlings.
A kindred spirit with his contemporaries at Wm.
Cadenhead, he believed wholeheartedly in the
bottling of cask strength whisky, and Silvano’s first
releases were a collaborative effort with Scotland’s
oldest independent bottler. Today these bottles
selected under Samaroli boast some of Scotland’s most
legendary whiskies and are growing increasingly
scarce.

A highly sought after official bottling of ex-sherry
casked Springbank, labelled exclusively for Samaroli.
This dates from the early 1980s when Silvano
Samaroli’s independent bottling business was still in
its infancy, and he was still operating as an official
importer seeking out exclusive cask strength and
sherry cask offerings like this for his clients. The
back label of the bottle includes his tasting notes.
Samaroli used the Glen Cawdor name to disguise
the real name of certain distilleries, most commonly
Springbank. When researching this bottle you will
notice that some refer to this as a Springbank, while
elsewhere you may read it is actually from Glen
Ord. Either way, it is an exceptional bottling from
an exceptional bottler.
