YORK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
EDUCATION INITIATIVES
YOUNG PERSON’S CONCERT
This concert was developed by our music
director, Lawrence Golan, and inspired by
Leonard Bernstein’s famous Young People’s
Concerts with the New York Philharmonic. Topics
for the performance will include the instruments
of the orchestra and the connections between
music and other art forms.
SONG WRITING COMPETITION
This competition is an opportunity for budding
composers to showcase their talents. Winners in
each category will have their work orchestrated
and performed by the symphony at the Young
Person’s Concert in the Fall.
IN-SCHOOL PERFORMANCES
Elementary
students
from
kindergarten
thru third grade are given a chance to see
professional York Symphony musicians in action
right in their schools. A dynamic performance
aspect with actors who engage with the
young audience are all a part of this invaluable
education experience.
