LETTER FROM
RICHARD H. BROWN
Now in my tenth year as Development Director for
the York Symphony Orchestra (YSO), I continue
to be heartened by the generous support of
our York Community – in good times and in
challenging ones. Recent history falls under the
latter description – challenging times!
On behalf of the YSO Board of Directors, Musicians
and Staff, we thank all of our patrons, donors,
sponsors and grantors who maintained and, in
many cases, increased their support during 202021. We are grateful as well for several infusions
of support from various federal, state and local
governmental initiatives that helped prop up and
stabilize the YSO.
This past year more than 575 individuals, businesses, organizations and
foundations contributed from $5.00 to $25,000 and more to support
the mission of the YSO, raising more than $650,000 of our roughly onemillion-dollar annual budget. And 75 of the 575 total donors were first
time contributors.
In addition to the above annual contributions, we are now in the fifth year
of actively building endowment assets by accepting multi-year pledges
as individuals and foundations “name” and fund one of more than 20
principal orchestra artistic positions. To date, ten positions are fully
endowed, three more are named via three-year pledges, and four more
chairs are under discussion. Please refer to the “Chair-Naming Initiative”
page in the development pages that follow for a complete listing.
Would you like to play a major role in securing the future of the York
Symphony Orchestra and Chorus by helping to build our endowment?
Do you have a favorite musical instrument or favorite YSO musician that
you would like to honor? Simply contact me and we can discuss required
amounts and details for the various instrument chairs and positions.
As you review the YSO Donor Pages that follow, take special note of
your neighbors, friends, business owners and community leaders that
are helping to keep fine Classical and Pops music playing in our York
Community. Please take time to thank them for supporting the York
Symphony Orchestra. They will appreciate that you noticed.
Please consider becoming a supporting member of the YSO Family in a
way that is most comfortable for you. I welcome your calls and emails.
Every donor is important and every donation makes a difference!
Thank you and best wishes,
Richard H. Brown
