KATHLEEN SHANNON
Barbara and Roy Rollman Chorusmaster
Dr. Kathleen Shannon has served the choral art
as a conductor and pedagogue for more than
30 years. Extensive training and experience
in Choral Music Education, Conducting, and
Choral Pedagogy have enabled her to accept
several faculty appointments, including 15 years
as Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities at West Virginia
University. She conducted traditional choirs, vocal jazz ensembles, taught
courses in choral methods, choral literature, and conducting at WVU and
also at the University of Mississippi and the University of Miami.
Currently, Dr. Shannon conducts the Temple University Voices (treble choir),
teaches several courses at Salem Community College (NJ), and observes
student teachers for the University of Delaware. She is Repertoire &
Resources Chair for Vocal Jazz for the Delaware unit of the American Choral
Directors Association and works as a guest conductor and consultant in the
areas of traditional choral pedagogy and vocal jazz. She is a regular music
adjudicator for Festival Disney and offers workshops, seminars, and private
instruction on a variety of choral topics.
STEPHEN CZARKOWSKI
Arthur J. & Lee R. Glatfelter Assistant Conductor
Stephen Czarkowski is in demand as a conductor,
cellist and educator in the Washington, D.C. area and
nationally. Currently in his eighth year as Assistant
Conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra,
Czarkowski is beginning his eleventh season
as Music Director and Conductor of the Apollo
Orchestra, Resident Conductor of the Luzerne
Music Center, Associate Conductor of Opera Camerata of Washington and
Music Director and Conductor of the Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra.
He led The National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. as part of
the 2003 National Conducting Institute directed by Leonard Slatkin. Other
guest conducting appearances include the Honolulu Symphony, Virginia
Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Potomac, Washington Sinfonietta
and Prince George’s Philharmonic.
Czarkowski is also an active cellist. He has performed as a Special Guest
Artist with the Library of Congress Chorale, and performed in concert for
President Obama, Vice President Pence and Pope Francis. He graduated
from The Catholic University of America with a Graduate Artist Diploma in
Orchestral Conducting, and Mannes College of Music in NYC with a Bachelor
and Double Master degree of Music in ‘Cello and Orchestral Conducting.For
