Black, Brown, and Beige Suite CONTINUED
CLASSICAL SERIES: DVORAK'S NEW WORLD
As Ellington himself once said about the piece, “For the music that
I wanted to hear, it was a matter of hearing people working; bending
over a washtub, humming, or just walking through the street in the dark,
whistling; or maybe somebody playing a piano, or guitar or something...
or you might hear a cat blowing the blues on a whistle on a train. This is
all people’s music.”

In 1998, the publisher G. Schirmer commissioned conductor and arranger
Jeff Tyzik to create a condensed version of Black, Brown and Beige for
symphony orchestra. The seven sections include the three sections of
Black, the first two sections of Brown, and two sections from Beige. The
Suite is set for a full symphony orchestra with added alto saxophone, trap
set, and jazz bass.
